Since I received my ADHD diagnosis in the summer of 2025, I’ve slowly researched on how to manage myself. Oftentimes, the question has been “Do I let ADHD manage me, or do I manage it?”. The answer is I manage me, with ADHD in the picture.
With it comes slowly growing my library of books on ADHD, and two books that could be ADHD-adjacent (more on that in just a bit).

Above are the first books my husband and I had on the subject of ADHD. The books ADHD 2.0 and Taking Charge of Adult ADHD has been pillars into understanding this disorder.
Another book, Die Welt der Frauen und Mädchen mit AD(H)S, is my first book in German and also the first book on the subject of women being disregarded from diagnosis.
The first ADHD-adjacent book I have is Dr Bessel van der Kolk’s “The Body Keeps The Score”. It’s a pretty fascinating book that I bought a year before my diagnosis. Coincidentally, the doctor who diagnosed me had a suspicion that I have PTSD. Personally, I am pretty sure I have, and to this day I am still trying to reconcile that with how I am managing myself.

Here is a book I borrowed from a former colleague (Hi, Jana!) who, like me, had just been recently diagnosed. This is the only English-language book that she has, therefore I borrowed it (haha). I have just started it, and it’s pretty much a solid book when it comes to explaining the difficult experiences women diagnosed with ADHD face everyday.

Here’s the second ADHD-adjacent book I have: So Easy, So Good by the nutritionist Kylie Sakaida. Found her on YouTube with her viral noodle soups in mason jars, but what piqued my interest was her white rice-and-lentils recipe, which is now a staple in my household. The author has also been diagnosed with ADHD, which helped form my decision to buy her cookbook. This book has handy explanations on why having a balanced meal of proteins, healthy fats, and carbs is essential, and this resonates with me as I need these to get through the day.
I’m looking forward to growing my library soon. If you’ve got recommendations, let me know!
